Enhancing quality of life

Assuming social responsibility on site

Covestro is committed to its production sites through its voluntary local financial involvement. This commitment is an expression of a sense of responsibility that is firmly anchored in Covestro's corporate culture. It is also evident in the support of local clubs, among other projects, all aligned with a shared objective: to enhance local quality of life and make cities more livable ("Brighter Places").

Sports clubs play a special role in everyday life. They promote physical development and impart social values - especially to children and adolescents. A wide range of sports and leisure activities at Covestro sites also helps employees lead healthy lives.

Thus, Covestro is helping to ensure that clubs can maintain their activities. Supporting sports has a long tradition at Covestro – one that started back when the company was founded. Sports inspire, spark emotions, and speak a language that everyone can understand. Just like Covestro!

Social commitment in Leverkusen

Covestro has long supported the RTHC Bayer Leverkusen e.V.. The club was established in 1951 by three independent clubs. Today, it has more than 2,000 members and offers not only the traditional sports of rowing, tennis and hockey, but also fitness and health activities.

Courses range from classic gymnastics to back fitness training and walking. The weight room of the club is available for athletes. The aim of RTHC is to help people find ways to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle in all areas of their lives.

Promoting sustainable mobility

Since March 2019, wupsiRad has provided people in Leverkusen with a simple and convenient bike rental system. wupsiRad initially started with 300 bikes at 40 stations – since 2024, over 600 bikes and 88 e-bikes have been available for rental at over 100 stations in the Leverkusen city area. Covestro has supported wupsiRad from the very beginning and was the exclusive main sponsor of the environmentally friendly bike rental system for five years. After all, sustainability is part of the materials manufacturer's corporate strategy. Covestro is therefore committed to environmentally friendly mobility in Leverkusen and supports an important future topic of urban development with the bicycle rental system.

On its 5th birthday, (from left to right) Markus Grawe, Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Leverkusen, Marc Kretkowski, Managing Director of wupsi, Uwe Richrath, Mayor of the City of Leverkusen, and Dr. Daniel Koch, Head of NRW Sites at Covestro, wish the climate-friendly mobility provider wupsiRad all the best and a great cycling season 2024!

The bike rental system has really got rolling. Covestro has been sponsoring "wupsiRad" as one of two partners since the system was expanded in 2024. It is operated by Leverkusen mobility service provider wupsi on behalf of the city of Leverkusen. Shared mobility is a crucial element of the urban mobility concept. The company nextbike rents out the bikes and handles local service.

Social commitment in Dormagen

Covestro has been supporting the TSV Bayer Dormagen 1920 e.V. since 2015. With approximately almost 4,000 members, it is Dormagen's biggest sports club and one of the largest in the region Rhein-Kreis Neuss. It is known for its sabre fencer and its handball department, as TSV Bayer Dormagen is currently playing in the 2nd division of the National Handball League (HBL).

Sports fans can choose from various sports such as basketball, fencing, soccer, handball, judo, jujutsu, track and field, swimming, diving, triathlon, gymnastics, and volleyball.

The TSV Dormagen's children’s sports concept focuses not only on competitive sports. It also offers services for children with limited athletic experience. The club's own kid's sports school “KiSS” offers different programs for basic motor skills training. It is therefore not a surprise that TSV Dormagen has been awarded the quality seal of “Child-friendly Sports Club” from the state sports association of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Social commitment in Krefeld-Uerdingen

By sponsoring the SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen e.V. and its 6,000 members, Covestro has been supporting one of the largest multi-division sports clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2015. It has 15 different departments, where members can play sports such as soccer, handball, basketball, track and field and cheerleading.

Covestro is a sponsor of the triathlon at Elfrather See.

Badminton, cricket, judo, canoing, karate, tennis, table tennis, triathlon and wind surfing are other competitive sports that the club offers. The club's facilities on Löschenhofweg in Krefeld are all housed within the “Covestro Sportpark Uerdingen.” In addition, the club has its own outdoor facilities for tennis, canoeing and wind surfing. Its recreational, children’s and senior's sports divisions also offer a wide range of programs for the entire family. Customers can also take professional courses in fitness and health sports. Vacation camps, a beach club, company health management and the club's own sports store "Flockpoint" round off the offer.

Swimming is serious business in Krefeld

With more than 10,000 members, the SV Bayer Uerdingen 08 e.V. is Germany's largest swimming club. The club works hard to prepare its athletes to achieve the highest performance when it comes to competitive sports. To achieve this ambitious goal, the competitive swimming department has been divided into individual training groups that pursue age-appropriate goals. In water polo, a sport that SV Bayer Uerdingen 08 e.V. has been very successful in, around 300 athletes are currently active in 20 teams.

The club facilities on the Waldsee have an outdoor pool in the lake, a 25 meter indoor pool, and a 50 meter airdome, called the Aquadome. The 25-meter indoor pool houses a leisure pool with water slide and a paddle pond for its youngest members. In addition, members also have access to a gymnastics hall to take courses, as well as a fitness room and sauna facilities.

The club also provides many general fitness courses for children and adults, such as the crawl stroke, aqua jogging or the backstroke. In “Hai-School”, children learn to move in the water at the tender age of four. Even the littlest nippers can explore the world of water with their parents from the age of just three months at baby swimming classes. The club also offers dedicated health courses which are open to the general public. Trendy sports such as stand up paddleboarding can be enjoyed primarily during the summer months.

Supporting cultural life

Covestro has been involved in a variety of hobby and cultural associations in Krefeld since 2015. Following the departure of Bayer AG from Krefeld, Covestro has provided financial support to four local clubs on its own since 2020. Since then, the associations have included the name Covestro in their own names to express their affiliation with the company.

The Covestro Symphoniker Krefeld is a symphony orchestra with approximately 60 musicians. The musical repertoire of the amateur orchestra includes over 200 works from the classical and romantic eras, as well as works by modern composers of the 20th century. The orchestra stages two concerts each year in the Krefeld Seidenweberhaus, and also performs regularly in guest concerts.

Representatives from the Krefeld Covestro Hobby Club and Cultural Association received a new club logo from their sponsor, Covestro, in January of 2020. The Covestro Foto Film Club Krefeld e.V. was originally founded in 1953. In 1987, the club added a video group. The renowned club, based in the Covestro Sportpark, focuses on this artistic hobby, and also offers social get-togethers and excursions to interesting locations.

The Sängervereinigung Covestro 1935 Krefeld e.V. - a singing society based in Krefeld - has a rich history. The 60 members in the club meet regularly to rehearse and to prepare for public performances, which are held frequently in Krefeld churches.

The acting club Laienspielgruppe Covestro Uerdingen e.V. has more than 50 active and passive members. Perfroming on stage is just one part of the actors's job. They also build most of the set pieces, costumes and props all by themselves.Every year the club invites guests for a special Christmas perfromance. Plays like “Puss in Boots” (2022) ”Snow White” (2021) and “Impy's Island” (2019) have become a permanent fixture of Krefeld's theater scene.
